Cathy Gourley

I am the curriculum writer for The Story of Movies, the educational outreach program of The Film Foundation. My latest project for The Film Foundation is Portraits of America: Democracy on Film. This interdisciplinary curriculum for students in upper elementary through high school and college explores how American democratic ideals and challenges have been expressed through film throughout the 20th and into the 21st  centuries. I began my career in education teaching seventh grade English and eventually left the classroom to pursue a writing career. I have published numerous non-fiction books for young adults and have been an editor with Weekly Reader Corporation. The focus of my work in developing educational materials is visual literacy, and more specifically cinema literacy.
