An activity from the nrich website which presents children with rectangles and compond shape, made from two rectangles, drawn on cm squared paper, with parts 'torn' from them. Children are asked to say how many cm squares are missing from each shape. A useful activity to link to visual representations of multiplication facts, and I would probably use as a starter or wrap up activity. The shapes can be seen on the web page, or printed from the PDF document.
