About This Lesson

I teach rounding to the nearest 10 using 'spiders and a drainpipe'.I have a little spider made out of card with 5 pipe cleaners (to make 10 legs) - i know its not right but he's a special math spider =) The idea is that if the spider has 4 or less legs (units) then he doesn't have enough to climb so slides down (rounds down) and if he has 5 or more he has enough to climb so rounds up. I have the 2 ten numbers at either end of a 'drainpipe' and you can fold the pipe cleaners back to make to get however many legs you need.
