About This Lesson
Here is an idea I got from Paul Ginnis' 'Teachers Toolkit'. The codebreaker task gets students to use their algebraic knowledge to crack a code. I put the code up on the board and hand out envelopes in groups of the equations for the groups to work on. Each letter corresponds to a number. Code revealed is 'Focus; Learn; Achieve'.
This is a great idea to consolidate student's understanding of solving equations and simultaneous equations. It would be a fun lesson and would be a good opportunity for students to work in groups. As an extension you could ask them to make up their own code with equations to enable it to be cracked. You could easily change the message to something appropriate to the class. Thank you for sharing, I will be trying this next week!
