About This Lesson
Here's a collection of poems that we put together while we were doing the unit on Immigration to the U.S. differentiated based on the reading levels of the students. We have included a short description of the poems: “Refugee Ship” by Lorna Cervantes; “Saying Yes” by Diana Chang; “No Speak English” (from The House on Mango Street) by Sandra Cisneros; “Black Hair” by Gary Soto; “I am Joaquin” (excerpt) By Rodolfo Gonzales; “Letter to America” by Francisco Alarcón. #NBCT
Awesome resource. This allows your students to gain knowledge of immigration while using their skills to compare and contrast how different authors approach the topic.
