About This Lesson

This activity has students do several things: The problem is nuclear proliferation. Students are given 3 documents, one from Truman, one from Mao, and one from Khrushchev all on imperialism, nuclear power, and the US. They are split up to be either advisors from Khrushchev or Kennedy who have to convince Mao to either develop nuclear weapons or not. This links the Chinese Communist Revolution with the Cold War, nuclear arms, and has students be persuasive using accountable talk.
