About This Lesson
The lesson begins with a warm-up that reviews the previous day’s lesson on plotting polygons and describing the sides of a polygon. The launch starts with students talking about perimeter and how to calculate the perimeter given a polygon with known side lengths. The issue of measuring the length of a polygon side or a line segment is then considered and students learn how to use the coordinate plane as a tool to measure length. Students then practice measuring the side lengths and calculating the perimeter of various polygons. Aligned to Common Core State Standard: 6.G.3
