About This Lesson

Academy Biologist Jim provides a behind the scenes look at feeding the Paddlefish (Polyodon spathula), located in the Water Planet exhibit in Steinhart Aquarium. American paddlefish typically live in the Mississippi River and feed primarily on zooplankton but also feed on crustaceans and bivalves. Their unique nose shape helps them to detect food through electromagnetic receptors and helps them to stabilize their head while sifting water.
