About This Lesson

Brother Sun, Sister Moon & Yup'ik Moon Song - Master artist, storyteller and dancer, Chuna McIntyre, performs traditional Yup'ik dance and song accompanied by percussion on a hand drum. He dances in his native regalia and uses authentic artifacts and masks to illustrate the customs and stories of this ancient southwest Alaskan tribe. Lessons give teachers the resources to guide students to use Indian signs to tell a story, interpret Nature Poems through creative movement and design a dance costume for a cultural celebration. Themes: the Power of Nature, Enduring Values, and The Human Family.
