About This Lesson
In order to be recognized and accepted as an Epic Hero a character must meet specific criteria. The lesson over the next two days will examine those criteria outlined in the Epic Journey as outlined by Joseph Campbell. Students will present their ideas on the characteristics of a hero and extract details from an excerpt of Beowulf in order to demonstrate clear understanding of the elements of an epic poem
The pieces to this unit are useful. However, the reading is incomplete. The website used is available to retrieve the remainder of the modern text of Beowulf. Also, the material for the stages of an Epic Journey is not differentiated towards Beowulf specifically. There are no teacher keys and the material is not scaffolded. BUT, this is a great source to use to build your own lesson! Thank you for providing the material! I am excited to align it to the needs of my students!
