About This Lesson

Students will learn to closely examine issue through the use of reading and annotating text to improve comprehension. Students will brainstorm the definition of poverty and then participate in a lesson where they will be guided through the process of reading and annotating teacher selected articles to gain a deeper sense of poverty in our world. During this unit students will explore poverty in the United States and in other countries. Students will begin discuss the underlying causes of poverty and how nations are address or not addressing this global issue in their society.
