About This Lesson
This handout has the five pillars of Islam and a brief description of the 4 regions outside Arabia to where Islam spread. The task is for students to predict how each of the pillars or the spread could have changed society - socially, politically, or economically. Following this handout, I have students read the second document (an adapted excerpt from the book What on Earth Happened?) to check if they were right and see what actually happened.
