In April 2014, a Latin American literary icon died. Gabriel Garcia Marquez introduced magical realism and Latin American history to the literary canon in “One Hundred Years of Solitude.” His use of fantasy and symbolism to describe the history of his native Colombia struck a chord in Latin America and around the world.
