About This Lesson

Use this lesson to jumpstart teaching letters to children. One of the helpful ways to teach children letters is to start off with the first letter of their name. Building a foundation that connects to their prior knowledge helps them to relate to the letter and build from there.

Each student gets the paper with the first letter of their name.  You can write their name in the blank, write their name in highlighter and have them trace it, or have the child write their name on their own.

I had the students place stickers in the letters.  This gave me an understanding of who could follow directions by only putting stickers inside the letter.  This also helps with their fine motor skills with peeling the stickers.  Doing this in the first week of school is a fun activity where you can start to see who understands letters and who is being exposed to them for the first time.

Key Words: ECE Early Childhood Pre-k

I got the font from a download from Teachers Pay Teachers: Amy McDonald
