Freedom to teach means that I can focus on helping my students learn what they - where they are and who they are - need rather than having to focus on ticking off boxes to please some bureaucratic or non-educator vision of what they should do.

It means teaching, not testing for meaningless data. It means teaching, not being a pawn for political bragging rights. It means teaching, not being a guinea pig for misguided initiatives. It means teaching, not being afraid to stretch students' vision of the world and their place in it. It means learning, not just earning credits.
