To me, having the freedom to teach means that yes, I do have a set of state standards to use as my guidelines to teach.

However, I am able to implement the knowledge that I gained throughout my own personal experiences in elementary, secondary, and college schooling to actively engage my students. My hope for them is that they enjoy science class and learn about the world around them. Ultimately, I want them to understand their role in their environment and feel like they have the power to be a voice of change and/or do something to make the world better, even if it is something small.

I love how you discuss that you want your students to feel like they have the power to be a voice of change! Empowering students is such an important part of teaching!
