About This Lesson

Wonder by R.J. Palacio grade level are from 4-7. Michele Wagg created this incredible resource that combines Novel  Hyperdocs with Literature Circles. Ms. Wagg's  first developed and used it with a 5th grade class. I think the theme is powerful and I could see it being a wonderful book for middle school students. I think that a teacher could do this unit via the disctance, but it would require good technology and regular connection via Zoom or other platform for the whole class and for the students with each other. It would be very important for teachers to be very aware and check with parents as it is very hard to schedule computer usage in some households. Remember, parents have to work via the computer also all the kids are doing school that way. Please To keep close to you heart in all you do for students and their families that not everyone has the privileges society might consider or think of as basic.

Last point, I have done a literature with my family of two at this age range several times. It is hard as it is only two of us and we found it hard to determine the roles in that basically there always needs to be the discussion director. We solved ours by rotation that role back and forth. We got to do another role of in addition if we wanted. Thus, families could do this also. I love it! It is one of my favorite ways to share a book. As a special educator and speech Language specialist, I love seeing my kids involved in the classroom with a good literature circle activity.

Enjoy!
