We just started back this week with some students coming in face to face and the majority working remotely from home.
It is scary and also a lot more work but it's nice to have kids in the rooms again. We started with our Special Education students first and then opened it up to regular education students. We are just waiting for the first Covid-19 outbreak to hit our campus. Our high school already have one confirmed case of an athlete. I am communicating with my students using Teams and that in itself is a challenge. Students need to turn on their cameras and speak on their microphones and that is so difficult.
I'm in central VA. We are totally virtual. Our school board will make a decision tomorrow on next steps for the next nine weeks. Some of the considerations include hybrid and face-to-face for exceptional ed and ELL students. Parent and teacher surveys were sent out to involve all stakeholders. Our school system is very small with under 4,000 students but we are in a high risk area that has had numerous outbreaks among adults and very few with school-age children. We feel that the same as everyone else -- this has been a challenge but we feel we have had many small wins including 1:1 devices and internet access for all students. Hopefully, you all will remain safe and free from outbreaks. All we can do is what we are asked and try to fully follow CDC guidelines. #strongertogether I am thankful for communities such as this where we can share ideas and best practices.
We are virtual and it has been somewhat challenging due to technology glitches. Our parents and school partners have been great in terms of support. Although it is difficult, we will get through this together.
