About This Lesson

Guide your students through a fun journey of empathy! In this expert-designed lesson, students learn about what empathy is, and how to show it. Students are introduced to empathy via a letter from Inés. Then, students examine how empathy is modeled in our story The Peekapak Pals and the New Student.

To access this story at reading level F&P I/J (1st/2nd Grade) as well as other learning topics and activities sign up for a free account at peekapak.com, books at multiple reading levels are available in our paid plans.

Empathy is understanding and sensing others’ emotions and imagining what they are thinking and how they are feeling. Empathy is an important 21st century skill that helps children build relationships, act with kindness, embrace differences, gain global perspectives, think critically, and communicate more effectively.
