Are you attending the Keynote: Priorities to Support Our Students: A Conversation with US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona?

What are you hoping to learn? Which of the administration’s priorities were you most excited to hear about? Share any other thoughts or lingering questions you have here.

Would like to ask US Sec'y of Ed Cardona whether the government would set a national goal or incentive for public schools to hire more K-5 teachers so that at kindergarten (if not the rest of K-5), class size is significantly smaller, in order to address increased social-emotional and trauma issues presented by K-5 students (pre- and post-pandemic), to make real change in our public school students' educational success? Certainly even before COVID, many more students are coming to school with more trauma experiences in their past and lower level of social-emotional skills than traditional education has expected.

And will we see increased incentives and goals to ensure certified librarians and library support staff in all schools, given the data shown that school librarians and open-access school libraries have been shown to boost student success, especially in reading/ELA scores? What can we do to not just encourage school districts to provide library/media specialists but to make it mandatory? For reading, for critical thinking skills, for independent inquiry skills, etc.?

Yes, I'm very keen to hear the new Secretary of Education, especially what is doing to undo the damage of the prior Secretary and educating the children the US detains.

Hello, this is very exciting and I would love to have a question asked regarding Head Start. There has been talk about increasing funding for salaries so that we can remain competitive with the local school districts. As you ay know, we invest a lot into training for the teachers. Then, they leave our program to work in the school districts for thousands more. Can you tell us if there are plans in place for additional funding?

How can we work with you to make sure that the Department of Education prioritizes instituting policies that demonstrate an asset-based approach to multilingualism, honoring and uplifting bilingual students and language learners as well as empowering all students to aim for multilingualism?

I am writing you as a California Retired Teacher concerning the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset. (GPO). It is my understanding that if my husband dies before me, I will get very little or none of his social security. This is unfair to many public employees in 15 states. I worked 40 years while raising a family and putting my husband through college so he could learn a living. Now we are both retired and he is a 5 year cancer survivor. WEP and GPO are very unfair and need to be repealed. Rodney Davis introduced H.R 82 to do this and I ask for your support and that you encourage both Republicans and Democrats to support this bill. Also, there is no place to email you on topics not listed on the Secretary of Education site. Do you have an email you recommend?
