About This Lesson

Students will conduct research into issues raised in Raisin in the Sun and write an eight-paragraph essay based on the textual evidence and analysis. The students will use their classroom notes discussion to help develop their thesis.

After surveying the themes, the students will choose ONE. 

  1. Assimilation and Asagai
  2. Pregnancy, female Doctors and Beneatha’s dream
  3. Travis and his life in the city
  4. Walter and his “dream deferred”
  5. Mama and her plant/garden dreams
  6. George Murchinson and his wealth
  7. Lindner and Walter’s epiphany
  8. The conclusion of the text compared to the beginning
  9. The apartment as a stage
  10.  Characterization and growth
