About This Lesson

As part of a special collaboration with UCLA, this lesson integrates the history of Japanese American internment during World War II into a broader unit on identity and community. Through observations, some historical inquiry and personal reflection, students will explore the complexities of identity in times of crisis and consider the social, cultural, and political forces that shape a sense of belonging. This lesson encourages students to connect to past injustices, relate the past to contemporary issues, and deepen their understanding of what it means to be part of a diverse and inclusive community.
