I am a Media Coordinator in Charlotte, NC. I have been in education for 27 years. . I spent 10 years in magnet programs -- 5 years at a dual language school for Spanish and 5 years at a magnet school offering French, English and Spanish instruction. I have learned so much from participating in workshops from the Lincoln Center International Educator training in Winston-Salem and also through my SIOP training (week long) through the Center for Applied Linguistics). From my dual language experiences I gained a lot of practical knowledge of language and vocabulary development that I have later used as I moved to a Title 1 school with a very high ESL population. I am still using these strategies now that I am now at my 2nd Title 1 elementary school. I have been active in professional organizations and have facilitated sessions at the North Carolina School Library Association, hosted a school tour for the American Association of School Librarians conference in Charlotte, and attended ALA Conferences in Washington, DC and Orlando, FL. I am a life long learner and strive to model this for my students. We learn together and they teach me as much as I teach them. Most recently I have worked to align the collection of my school library to align more closely with the reading levels of my students. Utilizing the data from MAP scores and TRC, I have been able to advocate for funding and resources given the gaps in the school's collection.
