I've been teaching Health & Physical Education for 28 years, the last 4 at the K-5 level. I'm back to the Middle School this year to teach G8 Health for High School Credit. I'd been here for 17 years prior to my Elementary experience.
I love physical activity, whether I'm involved or spectating. I enjoy being outdoors (without mosquitos) so camping, hiking, biking and Geocaching are some of my favorite hobbies. A knee that tries to remind me everyday that I've mistreated it for too many years playing fast-pitch softball and soccer on less than perfect fields is keeping me from playing competitive sports any longer. Coaching was a way to satisfy the need to be around the teams but has lost it's luster. I've been a Certified Athletic Trainer for 25 years but am not currently serving any schools' sports.
I never had the desire to have my own children; it's great to work with them most of the day but get to send them home so I can have time to do other things. As I tell my students, my "children" all have 4 legs and greet me everyday as though they haven't seen me in a very long time. There's something refreshing about that love.
