I am a veteran teacher with over 40 years of experience. Part of my career I served as the K-12 Language Arts Coordinator for a school district on the coast of Mississippi. This consumed about 8 years. The other years I taught English grades 8-12 and all levels, below-level through AP, including dual credit Composition and Rhetoric and Literature and Composition articulated with a local junior college. In addition to teaching English, I also taught public speaking and theatre during some of those years. In terms of ancillary responsibilities, I have served as English Department Chair, 10th grade team leader, yearbook sponsor, TAAS Coordinator for reading and writing at my high school in Texas (when the state test, now named STAAR, was named the TAAS Test) and a computer liaison teacher. I retired from public school teaching in 2005 and in 2006 began teaching with a home-school co-op called Homeschool Instructional Support or HIS Classes in a northwestern suburb of Houston, TX. I see my students in a classroom setting only one day a week for 1 1/2 hours. They are then, under the direction and supervision of their parents, expected to work at home on the homework I assign them. At HIS Classes I have taught Rhetoric and Composition, a course I taught to gifted and talented students as an AP course while in public school. I've also taught Advanced Grammar, ACT/SAT Preparation, and Study Skills with the co-op.
