As an English teacher for 20+ years, I have found that I get bored teaching the same literature all the time. I have taught from 5th grade all the way to 12th, with the same regular literary expectations each time. So I frequently look for new works from the classic authors to delve into and teach myself - to show that literature can be fun and entertaining - you just have to look for it.
I have found that most young teachers today are so focused on the testing and getting students to read anything, that they ignore the classics and thus ignore building the students' background knowledge that will really help them comprehend so much more.
I love teaching. I love working with teenagers and getting them excited about a story. That's excitement is what keeps me excited and eager to learn.
