I work for a nonprofit organization in Jamestown, New York called Jamestown Community Learning Council or JCLC for short. The agency has many different components to it. Our main focus is early intervention and parent engagement. We work closely with families to assure that their children are meeting milestones. We implement the Parents as Teachers curriculum. We do visits with the families at least once a month to do a hands-on activities with the parent and child together that help meet the milestones of their birth to 5 kiddo's and to work on the classroom skills of their school-aged kids. We do screenings, connect families to resources, meet with teachers for educational updates, hold family nights and work on family goals. Many of our visitors are located in our local public schools. I am located in an elementary school and my focus is on 2nd-4th graders that have been referred to our program via teachers. I work not only with that child, but with the family as a whole.
