The Who, What, When, Where and Why...
My name is Christy and I am a homeschool mother of two, my pre-school son and first grade daughter. Homeschooling was most definitely not a card I was looking to be dealt but concluded it to be the best educational practice for my daughter after massive amounts of negligence towards her learning disabilities and neurologicyal differences, as well as, a serious injury that was neither treated nor reported. Without the constraints of public education standards, we have chosen to utilize the entirety of the year for our learning goals. This method works great for my daughter because it doesn’t force her to memorize, and instead, I can bring her to mastery for each of our objectives without fear of her forgetting due to summer slide or the like. We have chosen to place the majority of our focus on phonological awareness and phonics teachings, with weekly student directed learning through STEAM lessons to cover our needs in the perspective subjects. Though digital knowledge is becoming a necessity for all children, we still place high standards on subjects such as handwriting, Spelling, vocabulary, physical education & health, economy and various others due to their connections needed for learning and gaining mastery, but also the very necessary knowledge that is seemingly being lost and forgotten by so many schools. I am a strong supporter of the public education teachers, especially those that make the choice for lower pay or worse neighborhoods, etc, in order to be a hand in getting all children to their potential. It is happenings such as these, that give our children the encouragement, engagement, attention and knowledge to make better choices for a better tomorrow - and show children that their is hope and they have the ability to rise, through their own choices. Being stagnant is a choice, moving forward is a choice but moving backward is also a choice. A great leader can make an impact so much that it’s the child that makes the choice to remove the rearview completely out of lack of need to even see backward. As a teacher to the faces of our tomorrow, you solely have made a choice to make a difference and be a difference in someone’s eyes.... that makes you a true hero. Don’t forget your cape when you’re entering your classroom!
