Hi! I am so glad I found this website! I am an alternate teacher/writing lab coordinator here at Colorado Early Colleges Parker. I have worked here for four years and love it! I was a substitute teacher for three years and loved teaching the high school students the most, so when CECP offered me a full-time position, I jumped on it. I have subbed in every class for every subject, but my heart lies in teaching English. When I have finished a day, week or month of teaching English, I am still invigorated at the end of each day and can't wait to come back in just a short 16 hours!
I first fell in love with teaching when I went to South Africa for six months following college graduation. I taught at a creche (kindergarten) and adored it. When I returned I attended the University of Denver to get a teacher's certification for K-12 Art in 1993. I was two weeks from graduation when I was informed by the dean that they hadn't caught a C I had made in my first course so I would have to repeat the entire program. I was despondent but knew I didn't want to teach art so I didn't fight it.Now that I have time again, with older children, I am seeking candidacy for alternate licensure at the CU Aspire program, either this fall or if not, definitely the fall of 2019. I want to be ready with great lesson plans from great teachers!
