About This Webinar

There’s a stunning rise in misogynistic rhetoric and attacks post-election. For example, the Institute for Strategic Research documented a 4,600% increase in the use of the phrase “your body, my choice,” and “get back into the kitchen” on the social media platform X immediately following the election. With gender-based discrimination more visible in classrooms, hallways, and social media interactions, educators, school leaders, and parents must understand the causes and consequences of misogynistic behavior in youth of all genders.

Attendees will learn how students perpetuate misogyny including verbal harassment, harmful stereotypes, and exclusionary behavior. Drawing on the experts at The American University’s Polarization and Extremism Research Innovation Lab (PERIL), psychologists, and educators, we’ll explore how these behaviors affect students' mental health, academic performance, and social relationships.

The webinar will provide practical strategies for identifying and addressing gender-based bullying, sexist language and attitudes, online harassment (including deepfake images), and media consumption. We’ll discuss effective intervention methods, including classroom discussions, peer education, and the development of inclusive school cultures that promote respect, equality, students’ right, and empathy.

Participants will explore ways to create more inclusive, respectful environments by promoting gender equality, challenging harmful stereotypes, and empowering students to be allies in combating misogyny.

Key learning objectives:

  • Identify and address different forms of gender-based discrimination.
  • Gain valuable resources for addressing misogyny in your school.
  • Acquire practical strategies for creating a whole-school approach to a more inclusive and equitable school environment.

Meet experts who will share their insights on fostering empathy, respect, and equality for all students. Join us for this timely conversation.

Great!

The instructors were knowledgeable and provided some different ways of framing topics I am aware of, which has helped me better understand them. They also provided MANY concrete resources, plus gave plenty of suggestions for actionable items (not necessarily specifics, but still helpful in order to apply to any classroom/school). Worth my hour of time, thanks so much!
