About This Webinar
As school districts across the country welcome a growing number of newcomer students, educators face the challenge of creating safe and inclusive learning environments amid a backdrop of shifting immigration policies and increasing anti-immigrant rhetoric. In the wake of recent elections, stereotypes, memes, and tropes about immigrants are proliferating, impacting school climates and the well-being of students and their communities.
This webinar will empower educators to recognize the rights of all students to a quality education, regardless of immigration status, while equipping them with strategies to address anti-immigrant prejudice, foster belonging, and support immigrant students effectively. Jessica Lander, an expert in education policy and immigrant student advocacy, will guide participants through captivating stories from history, current events, and personal experiences.
Drawing from her extensive research and classroom practice, Jessica will provide actionable insights and strategies for building inclusive school environments. Participants will explore the history of education policies impacting immigrant students and the rights of undocumented students and learn practical tools for fostering empathy, addressing bias and bullying, and creating a sense of belonging for immigrant students and their families.

What a wealth of information by a fabulous presenter! I loved the idea of an alliance club and the quote: Protecting students is not partisan--it is our responsibility as educators.
