Effective Use of Primary Sources in Social Studies and STEM Learning in Grades K-8

The presenters will demonstrate how using primary sources and picture books relating to Science and Social Studies supports interdisciplinary instruction.

Using the Library of Congress Teacher Primary Source Analysis Guide, facilitators will specifically highlight strategies that can be used across the K-8 spectrum. Teachers will interact with primary sources relating to Social Studies and STEM. In addition, this session will yield dialogue between participants and facilitators to better understand how using primary sources impacts student learning. Participants will be invited in the discussion to add their own strategies for using primary sources within their classrooms.
