About This Webinar
Join Not in Our Town and Share My Lesson for a webinar on embracing family diversity with your students.
This workshop features "Our Family" a new short film with a lesson guide that offers K-5 students a chance to see and talk about many different family configurations. Families in America today come in many different types and sizes, yet children can go through their entire elementary school years without seeing the rich diversity of families around them and only learning about the stereotypical family configuration: two parents/caregivers of the same background and children under one roof. However, that is not the reality for many children. Today, America's children come from many different types of families living in one home or two, being raised by two parents/caregivers, only a mother, or only a father, or by grandparents. Some have have lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender parents and family members. Others have adopted children, parents with more than one ethnic group, and many other differences.
