About This Webinar

The Parents Circle – Families Forum is a joint Israeli-Palestinian organization made up of more than 700 bereaved families. Their common bond is that they have lost a close family member to the conflict. But instead of choosing revenge, they have chosen a path of reconciliation.

Join Israeli member and bereaved mother, Robi Damelin, and Palestinian member and bereaved father, Bassam Aramin, as they share their stories of loss and their unique path toward reconciliation in this 2024 Share My Lesson Virtual Conference session.

Speakers

DamelinRobi Damelin

Robi Damelin, spokesperson and director of International Relations for the Parents Circle - Families Forum joined the organization after her son was killed by a Palestinian Sniper. All her work on the ground both in Palestine and Israel and internationally is geared towards non-violence and reconciliation as a means to end the occupation. Robi was named as a 2015 Woman of Impact by Women in the World. She regularly contributes to media outlets in Israel and abroad. Robi was invited to brief the Security Council at the United Nations in May, 2022.

AraminBassam Aramin

Bassam Aramin lives in Jericho in the West Bank. At the age of 17, he was incarcerated and spent 7 years in an Israeli jail. He went on to study history and holds an MA in Holocaust studies from the University of Bradford, England. He became a member of the Parents Circle in 2007 after losing his 10-year-old daughter Abir, who was killed by an Israeli border policeman in front of her school. Bassam devotes his time and energies to his conviction for a peaceful, nonviolent end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine and to Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation. Bassam is the former Palestinian Co-director of the Parents Circle – Families Forum.

The Real Deal

I am still considering the ramifications of this conversation not only to my own heart, but to the hearts and minds of all who truly want to know and understand. I hope I can incorporate what I have learned in the work I do with at-risk youth.

The thrill began when I saw in the write-up that the speakers were members of a Parent Circle, and yet lived on opposite sides of the argument. I have trained in and facilitated Circles and the process is the most engaging path I've seen to true Restorative Justice. This mother and this father give me more hope for the future of our world and the world of the kids I work with. The speaking of the unvarnished truth and the hope these two maintain are powerful.

This is a must-watch webinar. Robi and Bassam's stories on how they chose reconciliation and forgiveness instead of revenge with a focus on humanity are inspiring. We can learn from Robi and Bassam and have the difficult conversations we need to have so long as we listen.
