About This Webinar

Join Facing History and Ourselves and Share My Lesson for a webinar on civic participation and empowering students to find their voice.

Political philosopher Danielle Allen describes democracy as “a combination of ideals and institutions that work to put power in the hands of ordinary people.” Further, she argues that the essence of democracy is the active involvement of people, especially young people, who "see the shape of our world presently" as they learn, grow, and anticipate their future.

In this webinar, we will discuss ways to empower students to find their voice, share a framework for youth participation created by Allen and her colleagues, and highlight an example of civic participation from students at a Facing History school.

Professional Credit

Available for one-hour of PD credit. A certificate of completion will be available for download at the end of your session that you can submit for your school's or district's approval.
