About This Webinar

As school staff, it is our responsibility to ensure that students in our classroom feel safe, secure and free from vulnerabilities. Knowing that youth violence is a leading cause of death and non-fatal injuries, we need to ensure that our classrooms are equipped to support students who face this adversity and ensure that they do not become statistics. Often, people who act violently have trouble controlling their feelings; they may have been hurt by others. Violence may also occur as a response to prolonged hurt, trauma, bullying or victimization. In this 2023 Share My Lesson Virtual Conference session, attendees will learn about the many contexts in which young people may experience violence, explore their own biases and opinions about youth violence, and recognize risk and protective factors for youth both affected by and involved with youth violence.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the many contexts in which young people may experience violence, as well as its causes and the impact violence can have on young people’s lives
  • Examine your own biases and opinions about youth violence
  • Explore signs of youth involved with violence and how to recognize in own students
