Share one thing you are doing to stay healthy (mentally or physically) while teaching during the pandemic.
I try to take 5 minutes to do something I really enjoy, just me. I also meditate with my daughter. We sit cuddled up and just breathe together.
I live close to a track so I try to make it there 5 days a week to start of my day!
I take a 5 min. walking break between classes/webex sessions. It helps to clear my brain and those 5 min. breaks add up during a long day. It helps to keep me a little bit more active.
I am finding some measure of accomplishment by curating an Anti-racism/Anti-bias book and resource collection for students and one for adults.
Spending time in the evening using the Calm app to wind down my day
Spending more time connecting with family via zoom.
I talk a walk outside every day during my lunch.
Taking 10 minutes each day to dance with my kids
It's not much, but when the day is done, I close the door to the spare room I'm using as my "classroom" and I try not to go back until the next morning.
I have been slowing down and trying to let go of things that do not matter. I am also trying to connect with loved ones as much as I can while keeping safe.
I am trying to prioritize my personal life. Honestly, this is something I am continuing to work on. I can't seem to fit everything I need to do/prep during school hours. This then leads me to not only get to work early and then leave late, but also come home and do work. I am trying to have a better school/work separation.
Have hard work free boundaries at home
Running and working out early in the morning each day.
My family and I have been taking walks and playing board games together. Taking the time to purposefully connect without technology has been great.
I joined Noom for a year to monitor my health, exercise, and what I eat. In a chaotic situation where we control very little, it is nice to feel a sense of control over something.
To stay healthy, I make sure to take some me time every day to do something that I enjoy that has nothing to do with work. For me it is usually reading a good book that helps me to relax.
I spend as much time as I can hiking and being in nature. I meditate fairly regularly, and reach out to supports as needed.
I'm carving out 30-40 minutes M-F to do some form of exercise. This month I entered a Barre virtual challenge that is 4 days a week to help meet my goal.
I have started doing 15-20 minutes of Yoga which offers online classes.
I wake up 2 hours before work every day to make sure I have enough time to go for a walk or walk on the treadmill while watching TV/listening to a podcast and have a proper breakfast before I even turn on my computer. Some days, it's hard to get out of bed, but I never regret taking that time for myself.
Since Distance Learning began in my district in March 2020, I have made a great effort to go outside for a quick walk 2 or 3 times every day. Even a few minutes outside in the fresh air gives me a reset.
At least 4 times a week, I walk at the beach, ride my mountain bike or hike the hill behind my house. On days when I'm too busy, I listen to my podcast while working around the house. Each day, I take time to spend quality time with my children, unrelated to school business (mine and theirs).
I schedule time in between my online classes so that I can get up, move around, take a walk, exercise, eat a healthy snack, drink water.
I started doing watercolor. It was something I always wanted to try and to make it really easy for myself, I ordered a subscription kit where all the supplies are delivered to your door (because I knew I'd never actually do it otherwise). Though it's only a once a week thing for me, it is an amazing stress release and I really enjoy it!
I go outside with my dog and we play for at least 15-20 minutes. My dog has brought me so much joy and stress relief this year.
Hello! I am using Headspace app to practice mindfulness and meditations for educators
I have been taking walks after dinner with my husband. It’s very enjoyable now that the weather has cooled off!
Mentally - Breathwork and humor
Physically - treadmill, bike, yoga/stretching
Go for a daily walk outdoors with my husband.
Limiting my exposure to the news and social media.
I dance via youtube (zumba and reggaeton), chant nam myoho renge kyo in the morning and evenings
Get outside and do some serious yardwork - home maintenance
I do something creative for 30 minutes every day--journaling, art, knitting, sewing etc.
I like to do Buti yoga at home and kids yoga even for ten minutes during the day with the kids
Focusing on routines, not only for myself but for my kids at home. Also making an intentional effort to stay connected to family and friends either through a phone call or a text.
I'm consiously trying hard not to eat when I'm bored or late at night anymore. I found a fasting app that has helped me only eat within a certain amount of time, and I've been good about sticking to it.
Trying to eat healthier, drink more water, and get more sleep.
I turn off the computer at about 4:00 pm and don't go back to work on it until morning.
I am doing a daily devotional and keeping a journal. I'm also seeing a therapist and leaning on family and friends.
Keeping my house clean has been good for my mental health during this pandemic.
Just to take a break from work and the world, I downloaded a paint by numbers app on my iPad and enjoy a quiet 10 minutes of coloring every evening! It’s calming and satisfying :)
I try to start my days with positive thoughts and gratitude.
I accept that we are experiencing something in education that we haven't before. I accept that it is what it is and go tackle the day.
Getting enough sleep at night!
I take weekly nature walks with self and/or partner, cook nourishing dishes once/week, keep a healthy routine that fills my mental, emotional, and physical reserves/bucket up.
I work out 30 minutes a day.
I'm doing mindfulness with my students on Wednesdays using Inner Explorer.
Going to PT
