About This Lesson
Often when having class discussions, I've found that my students don't really know how to have a productive dialogue among several participants. They are more used to an argument, where they each just say their thoughts or opinions outloud, and essentially talk AT each other, instead of talking WITH each other to form a synthesis of ideas - true discourse. These 12 protocols can help students both listen and respond to each other while also being aware of how they are adding to the discussion. They are simple, but they can work.
