About This Lesson

Students will learn how a public building reflects the ideas of the architect and compare this to how the public perceives the building. Students will look at the Hamilton Building, read about the architect Daniel Libeskind, and interview people about their perceptions of the Hamilton Building to better understand the similarities and differences in the architect’s and the public’s points of view.

Good lesson plan to get students involved in surveying, researching, and forming opinions. This lesson is specifically for Colorado standards but the concept can be applied to various other states/ buildings. Perhaps when discussing continuity and change, students could view some of the first buildings built in Colorado to better compare the modern change in architecture.
