Arithmetic Understandings & Variable Expressions

This unit on arithmetic reasoning was carefully crafted to allow students to refine their understandings around numeric expressions by relating them to visual models/representations to build conceptual understanding. The unit presents an opportunity to apply and transfer these understandings of numerical expressions to a new situation which requires variable expressions to describe the solution. Students are asked to deal with variable expressions in a more abstract way. Unit developed by Audra McPhillips using the Common Core Lesson Template (included).
