About This Lesson

Asbestos is a carcinogen and is linked to the fatal lung diseases of asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. Children are particularly vulnerable to asbestos because their lungs are still developing and they breathe more air per pound of body weight than adults do. Asbestos has been used for a wide range of manufactured goods, mostly in building materials, friction products, heat-resistant fabrics, pack-aging and coatings. This fact sheet provides tips to reduce exposure to asbestos in your child care facility, home and workplace.
