About This Lesson

This high school lesson on athletes and activism explores recent situations in which athletes—from college to professional—have used and been asked to use their power and influence to stand up for social justice issues. The lesson provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their own opinions about mixing sports and politics, learn more about athletes who have taken stands on political issues over the years and write to an athlete or famous person about an issue that is important to them.
