About This Lesson
In this lesson, students will discover that climate change has a significant impact on real people’s lives, especially children’s. Students will explore an extreme weather event—2013’s Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines—and learn about disaster risk reduction (DRR) and the efforts of UNICEF and its partners to identify and assess risk in order to increase resiliency ahead of future disasters. Students will study local DRR plans and determine how well they meet the needs of young people in the face of climate change. For more global education resources, visit us at www.teachunicef.org.
