About This Lesson

This characterization unit plan is intended for 9th grade English students. This unit plan is in line with Common Core State Standards. The standard that is the focus of this lesson is "CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3: Analyze how complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme." This lesson incorporates the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The objective of the unit is to be ready to see how Steinbeck uses figurative language to develop characters in the novella Of Mice and Men.
