About This Lesson

In this unit students will compare and contrast multiple versions of Cinderella by different authors and from different cultures. The students will be asked to identify similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic. The students will then retell their favorite version of Cinderella, and write an opinion on why they chose the version they did. Aligned to Common Core State Standards: RL.1.9, RI.1.9, W.1.1, W.1.6, L.1.1, L.1.5, SL.1.5

Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories.
Identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic (e.g., in illustrations, descriptions, or procedures).
Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers.
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
With guidance and support from adults, demonstrate understanding of word relationships and nuances in word meanings.
Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

Very detailed and easy to follow lesson plans that are rigorous and engaging. Lots of scaffolding, too. I do think these lessons would be more appropriate for older elementary grades such as 4th or 5th because of the text complexity and writing necessary.
