About This Lesson

Focus: Students investigate what causes changes in motion by exploring pushes and pulls including the concepts:

  • Pushes and pulls can have different strengths and directions.
  • Pushing and pulling on an object can change the speed or direction of its motion and can start or stop it.

Number of Lessons: 3, each lesson is divided into 3–5 lesson segments.

Instruction Time:  30–45 minutes per lesson segment,  for a minimum of sixteen days and a maximum of twenty-four days..

Standards

Plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.
Analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull.
