About This Lesson

This handout uses secondary and primary sources to explain how mercantilism and Spanish colonial policies impacted the Creoles living in Spanish American colonies. Students are asked to evaluate how this situation could cause risks for the Creole class (such as rising debt to their mother country, economic limitations on growth, revolutions against the Creoles from the Natives and African slaves, etc.)
