About This Lesson
Selecting Your Subject
You can compare anything from the trivial (boxers vs. briefs) to the really serious (a career as a doctor with a job in a pharmaceutical company). When you compare you are looking for similarities and when you contrast you are looking for differences—these are part of the same process. To convert your brainstorming into a compare and contrast essay you need to see your subject as part of a large project—to demonstrate that one object is better than another or to reveal a particular relationship between two objects.
