About This Lesson

In this exercise on curating quarters of enslaved persons, students will:

  • Analyze diverse sources including paintings, archaeological objects, documents, and a biography. 
  • Create an evidence based visual representation of the Slave Quarters at Mount Vernon to understand enslaved life in the 18th century.
  • Act as curators to interpret a space based on evidence.

TIMEFRAME:

Approximately one class session
