About This Lesson

A wide range of mental math activities. Great to use at the beginning of the day or in math lessons. Excellent for consolidating number bonds and times tables. Aligned to Common Core State Standards: K.OA.1, 1.OA.6, 2.OA.2, 3.OA.7, 4.NBT.4, 5.NBT.5

Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
